Monday Night Football had a different scene when watching the St. Louis Rams come out of the locker room. Five of the Rams left the locker room with hands up in support of the protesters in Ferguson, Missouri. With the fact that these five men are on national television, are in the employment of a league that is very touchy about anything done when in the employment of the NFL, these men have guts. The fact that they are freely expressing how they feel about a situation going on with current events should be commended.
Their act also caught the attention of St. Louis Police. Two statements have been released, the first was from the St. Louis Police Officers Association. Their statement condemned the representation of speech the players used. This statement, I feel, was not a smart move to make. By being a government association and condemning them act of free speech used by these men could cause trouble. The second statement that was released was from the Ethical Society of Police.
"The statement of the St. Louis Police Officers Association do not reflect the opinions of the majority of African American police officers in the department because there are no African American officers on their governing board and they have a minimal amount of African American members,"
The actions of the St. Louis Police is what I am most ageist. Not every action that is done requires a statement. I feel that sometimes it is best to just stay quite and this is a time where I feel would have been best. There is already enough anger and powerful feelings going around towards police in that aria and releasing a statement that says no towards freedom of speech was not smart.
